Seventeen undergraduate students have received scholarships from the Dr. Chioma Awuzie Foundation for 2024.
The awards were presented at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, in Orumba North Local Government Area, where recipients from various public universities in the state gathered. The ceremony coincided with Dr. Mrs. Chioma Awuzie’s 51st birthday celebration.
The event began with a road show led by Dr. Awuzie, inviting the polytechnic community to join the charity award program and her birthday festivities.
Professor Moses Ochendo, Chairman of the occasion and Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, praised Dr. Awuzie for her dedication to supporting the less privileged. He urged the awardees to appreciate and honor their benefactor.
Dr. Uche Onyegbu, Acting Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Oko, lauded Dr. Awuzie as a divine gift to humanity and encouraged the scholarship recipients to value the educational opportunity provided.
In her address, Dr. Awuzie highlighted the foundation’s various empowerment programs designed to uplift the underprivileged. She affirmed the foundation’s commitment to expanding its scholarship initiatives to create lasting positive change in communities.
The event was attended by representatives from multiple tertiary institutions in Anambra State, including Prof. Kate Omenugha, Acting Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, represented by Venerable Dr. Sunday Achebe, who commended Dr. Awuzie for her efforts.
Comrade Fidelis Awuzie, the celebrant’s husband, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to celebrate his wife’s birthday and her philanthropic impact.
Beneficiaries like Mr. Timothy Aniebo, Miss Peace Chidekwe, and Miss Maria Agwuncha voiced their appreciation and pledged to utilize the scholarships wisely.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of dummy cheques, traditional dances by the Egede Nkwa Cultural Troupe and Afro Titans, and the cutting of the birthday cake.
