A total of 5,776 athletes from 29 states have arrived in Asaba, Delta State, to participate in the 8th National Youth Games, which officially begins with the opening ceremony on Thursday. Delta State Governor, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, inspected facilities at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, the main venue for the event, and expressed confidence in the state’s readiness to host the Games.
The Governor, alongside Chief Solomon Ogba, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), and officials from the State Sports Commission, toured key areas such as the swimming pool, shooting range, and the Indoor Sports Hall.
Speaking to journalists, Governor Oborevwori highlighted the importance of the Games in discovering young talents, citing the success of Favour Ofili, an athlete who emerged from past Youth Games and recently competed at the Olympics. He assured that this year’s event would surpass previous editions in terms of talent discovery and overall execution.
