8th Assembly Lauded for Impressive Performance in First Year – Anambra State House Speaker, Udeze

The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze, has commended the 8th Assembly for its remarkable achievements within its first year. Under his leadership, the Assembly has successfully passed 11 out of 21 bills presented since their inauguration on June 12, 2023.

Speaking to journalists at the legislative complex in Awka, Udeze highlighted the Assembly’s dedication and bipartisan effort towards the state’s development. He praised the members for their commitment, noting that despite party differences, they have worked collectively for the betterment of Ndi Anambra.

Within the past year, the Assembly has considered 62 motions and approximately 70 resolutions. Of the 21 bills, 11 were executive bills and 10 were private member bills, all designed with the state’s best interests in mind.

Udeze acknowledged the challenges faced by the 8th Assembly, particularly with 23 new members unfamiliar with legislative procedures. To address this, the leadership organized seminars both within and outside the state to enhance their understanding of legislative operations.

Emphasizing teamwork, Udeze stated that the legislators are united in their efforts to serve the people more effectively. He also highlighted a strong working relationship with Governor Chukwuma Soludo and the executive branch.

The Speaker revealed ongoing efforts towards achieving legislative autonomy, with a commission expected to be established soon. Additionally, a committee has been set up to review laws passed in the last 20 years, ensuring they continue to enact laws that benefit the state without being a mere rubber stamp.
