The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, emphasized the critical role of journalists in promoting healthy living during the 2024 Triennial Delegates’ Conference of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ). She highlighted the importance of journalists as key stakeholders in spreading health education and decentralizing health awareness.
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Soludo explained that her non-governmental movement, which focuses on basic health awareness, aligns closely with the goals of journalists. She noted that female journalists, due to their influential positions, are well-placed to lead a health revolution starting with themselves.
Mrs. Soludo urged the journalists to maintain healthy lifestyles, reminding them that only a healthy body can perform optimally. She also expressed her NGO’s interest in partnering with NAWOJ to promote health awareness and education throughout Anambra State, emphasizing the power of collaborative efforts.
She clarified that the “Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative” is not merely a “pet project” but a long-term movement that began before her husband’s tenure and is designed to outlast the current administration. The initiative is built on six foundational pillars that she elaborated on during her speech.
The Anambra State President of NAWOJ, Comrade Franklin Onyekachi, praised Mrs. Soludo’s healthy living campaign for significantly increasing health awareness in households across the state. She expressed the association’s readiness to partner with Mrs. Soludo’s NGO and leverage their professional platforms to spread the message.
Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Anambra State, commended Mrs. Soludo for being the first governor’s wife to attend such an event and acknowledged the positive impact of her programs on the state.
The conference also saw the attendance of key state officials, including the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, and Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, among others.
