Awka – The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa, emphasized the party’s commitment to innovative and disciplined leadership in Nigeria during a press briefing marking his first year in office. Held at the party’s regional office in Awka, the event highlighted APGA’s achievements and future plans under Ezeokenwa’s leadership.
Ezeokenwa noted that the rebranded national outlook of APGA has positioned the party to drive significant changes in the country. He attributed this to the “Drive APGA” agenda, which has fostered a culture of discipline, accountability, and transparency within the party. “We have set clear guidelines and expectations, upholding the supremacy of the party and ensuring all members adhere to APGA’s values without hierarchical dictates,” he said.
Among the new initiatives introduced under Ezeokenwa’s leadership are the APGA Foundation, APGA Next Generation, APGA Digital Hub, and the APGA Manifesto. The party is also set to launch APGA Membership Digitisation on June 1, 2024, which will provide digital membership cards featuring an array of benefits.
As a constructive opposition, APGA has been vocal in advocating for positive change in critical areas such as security, the economy, inclusive governance, and electoral reforms. Ezeokenwa highlighted the party’s efforts in suggesting alternative solutions to the ruling National party and promoting policies that empower marginalized groups.
“At the heart of what Governor Soludo is doing in Anambra State as the National Leader of the party is setting new standards for governance,” Ezeokenwa stated. He praised initiatives in Anambra such as free education without hidden charges, free antenatal care and child delivery services, road construction, school renovations, and the establishment of new health facilities, all contributing to economic growth and stability.
Addressing the issue of local government elections in Anambra, Ezeokenwa underscored APGA’s commitment to the local government system as a crucial structure. He emphasized that the APGA-led government in Anambra is dedicated to conducting local government elections and believes that each state’s local government system should reflect its unique characteristics. He questioned the impact of local government systems in states where elections have been conducted, advocating for a more tailored approach.
The press briefing was attended by key party figures, including Deputy National Chairman (North) Alhaji Bello, National Welfare Secretary Hon. Silas Musa Tanko, and Deputy National Publicity Secretary Hon. Amala Azodo.
