In Owerri, the Igbo-Biafra Nationalists (IBN) have called on the South East Governors to acknowledge the Igbo business apprenticeship scheme. Edoziuno Chukwunonso, spokesperson for IBN, made this appeal in a statement to the press.
The pro-Biafra group emphasized the importance of recognizing individuals who have undergone the Igbo apprenticeship scheme and providing them with certificates. According to IBN, those who have completed the scheme demonstrate exceptional managerial skills and should be celebrated for their ability to effectively run high-tech blue-chip companies.
IBN urged collaboration between South-East governors, academia, educators, and business leaders to work with the Ministry of Education in designing a curriculum that offers certificate, degree, and postgraduate qualifications based on the Igbo business apprenticeship scheme.
They emphasized that Igbo traders and businessmen are valuable assets capable of competing globally. The traditional five-year apprenticeship, according to IBN, is equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in terms of practical knowledge and managerial skills.
IBN stressed the need for formal recognition of Igbo traders’ expertise and accomplishments. They called on governors to explore the possibility of awarding degree certificates to past and present Igbo traders who have successfully completed their apprenticeships. This recognition, they believe, will not only honor their contributions but also elevate the status of the Igbo business community globally.
In conclusion, IBN highlighted the importance of bridging the gap between traditional business practices and modern educational qualifications. They emphasized that formal academic recognition of the Igbo business apprenticeship scheme will pave the way for a new generation of globally competitive Igbo business leaders.
