Top leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the South-South region, including Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio and Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu, have reiterated their unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration. This affirmation came during a pivotal one-day zonal meeting of the APC held in Calabar.
In a statement delivered by the zonal Vice Chairman of the party, Hon. Chief Victor Giadom, the APC stakeholders underscored their confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership. They praised his strategic decisions aimed at revitalizing Nigeria’s economy and restoring hope among the populace and investors alike.
The meeting, which focused on enhancing the APC’s influence in the South-South, particularly ahead of the upcoming governorship election in Edo State scheduled for September this year, highlighted the need for unity and reconciliation within the party. To this end, a reconciliation committee for the South-South region was proposed, with Governor Otu appointed to lead the initiative.
The APC leaders committed to closing any existing gaps, fostering collaboration, and aligning towards the common goal of strengthening the party’s presence in the region. They reiterated their steadfast support for President Tinubu’s policies in governance, economic reforms, national security, and infrastructure development.
The communiqué issued at the end of the meeting emphasized the importance of winning more states, starting with Edo State, and commended President Tinubu for his dedication to key projects such as the Coastal Road initiative, which is set to enhance connectivity and socio-economic relations between the South-West and South-South regions.
“It is imperative for the APC to regain control of the government in Edo State and expand its membership within the region,” the statement read. The leaders also applauded President Tinubu’s commitment to infrastructure development, particularly highlighting the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project as pivotal for regional integration and economic growth.
The gathering concluded with a renewed commitment to mobilize party resources effectively towards achieving electoral victories and providing unwavering support to President Tinubu, both in the present term and during the upcoming 2027 general elections.
The South-South APC leaders expressed optimism that their strategic planning and unity efforts would solidify the party’s standing in the region and contribute to the overall national development agenda under President Tinubu’s leadership.
