Charles Akhabua, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving at Community Secondary School in Igbaku, Ayamelum Local Government Area, has successfully reconstructed a five-room water closet toilet as part of his personal community development project.
Motivated by the poor state of the existing facilities, which had become dilapidated and abandoned, Akhabua took on the project to provide a sanitary alternative for the students, who had been resorting to open defecation.
The Delta State-born corps member expressed gratitude to the school principal, community leaders, and philanthropists whose funding made the project possible.
During the inauguration of the new facility, Anambra State NYSC Coordinator Blessing Iruma, represented by Awka Zonal Inspector Ferdinand Anya, praised the project as exemplary. Iruma encouraged other corps members to leave lasting legacies by undertaking similar initiatives at their primary assignments.
Chief Gilbert Dieli, President-General of Igbaku Town Union, commended Akhabua for his efforts and prayed for his success in future endeavors.
This initiative underscores the positive impact NYSC members can have on their host communities through dedicated service and development projects.
