Tobi Amusan spearheaded Nigeria’s victory in the women’s 4x100m relay at the 2024 African Senior Athletics Championship in Douala on Monday night. The team, comprising Amusan, Justina Eyakpobeyan, Tima Godbless, and Olayinka Olajide, secured the gold medal with a time of 42.76 seconds.
Nigeria’s West African rivals, Liberia and Ghana, finished second and third, respectively. This win extends Nigeria’s dominance in this event, having not lost the women’s 4x100m relay at the African Athletics Championship since 2018. Amusan has been a consistent member of all three victorious teams.
In the men’s 4x100m relay, Nigeria earned a silver medal. The team, made up of Kanyinsola Ajayi, Usheoritse Itsekiri, Alaba Akintola, and Godson Brume, completed the race in 38.84 seconds. Ghana claimed the gold medal with a time of 38.63 seconds, while Ivory Coast took the bronze with 39.77 seconds.
