Cherish Markson, a Bayelsa State-born student, has been honored by the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom for her exceptional performance in the three-year Bachelor of Law with Social Sciences degree programme. Markson, the daughter of former Bayelsa State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, emerged as the top law graduate in her class.
Markson’s academic excellence is not new. Three years ago, as a student at Bridge House College, Lagos, she received the Top in World Award in Law and High Achievement in Sociology from Cambridge International. She also earned recognition for her outstanding performance in the Advanced Subsidiary Level Examination in the November 2020/2021 series.
In a congratulatory letter signed by Dr. Margaret O’Brien, Director of Undergraduate Studies at the School of Law, the University of Warwick praised Cherish for scoring the highest marks among her peers and awarded her a prize of £250.
The letter stated, “You have been awarded First Prize for your performance in the three-year BA Law with Social Sciences degree at the University of Warwick. You achieved a second class, higher division degree, with an overall average of 67.3 per cent. A record of your prize-winning status will be added to your HEAR transcript. Your prize of £250 will be paid directly into your bank account.”
The university further commended Cherish’s commitment and intellect, expressing confidence in her future success. A formal reception will be held in her honor after the graduation ceremony on July 19, hosted by the head of the school.
