AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze has assured fans of more exciting performances in the upcoming season following his standout display in a pre-season match against Manchester City on Saturday night.
The Nigerian forward showcased his skills, providing two stunning assists that helped AC Milan secure a 3-2 victory over Manchester City at Yankee Stadium in New York City.
Manchester City’s Erling Haaland opened the scoring in the 19th minute, but Chukwueze quickly turned the game around. In the 30th minute, he collected a loose ball at the edge of the City area, drawing two defenders before delivering a precise cross for Lorenzo Colombo to equalize.
Just four minutes later, Chukwueze and Colombo combined again. The winger maneuvered past his markers on the right wing and sent another pinpoint cross, allowing Colombo to score Milan’s second goal.
Although John McAtee leveled the game for Manchester City early in the second half, Marco Nasti secured the win for Milan with a late goal.
Chukwueze played for 65 minutes, during which he achieved two assists, an 80% pass completion rate, a perfect 100% cross completion rate, and one shot off target.
After the game, Chukwueze praised new coach Paulo Fonseca, who replaced Stefano Pioli, for his confidence in him. “I love the new coach; he gave me a chance right away, and it’s important when someone gives you confidence. I tell the fans that they will see a new Samu this year,” Chukwueze said via Milan Matters.
Last season, Chukwueze scored three goals and provided three assists in 33 appearances across all competitions for AC Milan. Over the next ten days, Paulo Fonseca’s team will face Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, where Chukwueze will aim to solidify his position in the first team.
