The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Plateau State Specialist Hospital, Prof. Christopher Yilgwan, has commended Governor Caleb Mutfwang for his continuous support in the health sector. Speaking to journalists in Jos on Friday to mark his first year in office, Prof. Yilgwan highlighted the significant progress made under his leadership, crediting much of the success to the governor’s backing.
Reflecting on the past year, Prof. Yilgwan said, “The improvements we have achieved would not have been possible without the backing of His Excellency, Governor Caleb Mutfwang. His support has been instrumental in addressing some of our most pressing challenges.”
Prof. Yilgwan noted that when he assumed office, the hospital faced severe staffing shortages and uncertainty among newly recruited staff due to unpaid salaries. “By the grace of God, we were able to stabilize this situation, but challenges remain. We urgently need more nursing staff and specialists to provide comprehensive care.”
He also addressed the previously inadequate working environment. “The hospital was in darkness at night, making the environment unsafe for both staff and patients. With the support of the governor, we installed solar floodlights and security cameras, significantly improving safety and working conditions.”
One of the most notable advancements, according to Yilgwan, has been the transition from a paper-based system to an e-hospital system. “With the support of His Excellency, we have built a server and developed a context-specific platform. This move is expected to streamline data management and improve overall efficiency in patient care, positioning Plateau Specialist Hospital at the forefront of healthcare innovation in the region.”
Despite these achievements, Yilgwan emphasized the need for continued government support. “The support from His Excellency has been instrumental in our achievements so far, but we need ongoing assistance to address remaining challenges and enhance our service delivery,” he stated.
