The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) has commended Oyi and Ayamelum Local Government Areas for their thorough preparations ahead of the September 28 local government elections.
During a visit to the Oyi council headquarters in Nteje, ANSIEC Chairman Magistrate Genevieve Osakwe praised the readiness of the two LGAs. The visit, aimed at assessing the readiness of ANSIEC offices and raising awareness among stakeholders, was part of the commission’s efforts to ensure a successful election.
Speaking through the Commissioner for Information and Publicity, Sir Anthony Nnalue, Magistrate Osakwe expressed confidence that the upcoming election would serve as a model for other states. She urged the LGAs to ensure the provision of necessary security to safeguard the equipment for the election.
Responding on behalf of the LGAs, Ayamelum Transition Committee Chairman Mr. Alphonsus Ofumelu, Oyi Chairman Mr. Emmanuel Nweke, and stakeholders such as Apostle Chijioke Ozoemena and Barrister Ernest Okafor, thanked ANSIEC for the visit. They reaffirmed their commitment to electing credible leaders and called for timely delivery of electoral materials on election day.
Other members of the ANSIEC team on the visit included the Commissioner for Welfare and Field Services, Mrs. Helen Umeh, and Commissioner for Logistics and Operations, Mrs. Patience Ikeagu.
