Honorable Ikenna Ofodeme, the representative of Ekwusigo Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, recently held a town hall meeting for his constituents, which was followed by a celebration of the traditional Iwa Ji (New Yam) Festival at his residence in Ichi, Ekwusigo Council Area.
The event, which also featured the distribution of improved agricultural seedlings, attracted dignitaries from various sectors, including government officials, political leaders, religious figures, and traditional rulers.
During the town hall meeting, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Foster Ihejiofor, and the Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Pauly Onyeka, praised Hon. Ofodeme for his proactive leadership. They commended his efforts to align with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of economic empowerment through agricultural investments, urging recipients of the seedlings to make the most of the opportunity.
Deputy Majority Leader of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Dr. Jude Akpua, also spoke at the event, lauding Ofodeme’s performance in the Assembly and encouraging constituents to continue supporting his initiatives.
The Transition Committee Chairman of Ekwusigo Council Area, Mr. Chimezie Obi, highlighted Ofodeme’s role in maintaining peace and security in Ichi, praising his efforts to improve the community’s security infrastructure.
Leaders from various communities, including Chief Chris Ononuju of Ozubulu, Sir Vin Dike of Oraifite, and Chief Chijoke Efobi of Ichi, hailed the town hall meeting as unprecedented in the constituency. They commended both Governor Soludo and Hon. Ofodeme for their leadership and commitment to the development of the region.
In his address, Hon. Ofodeme, who also serves as the Majority Leader of the Anambra State House of Assembly, expressed his gratitude to his constituents for their support. He underscored the need for further collaboration between local stakeholders and the government to enhance the urbanization of Ekwusigo.
On the significance of the New Yam Festival, Hon. Ofodeme emphasized the importance of preserving Igbo culture and traditions. He expressed his gratitude to God for a successful harvest and urged Ndi Anambra to continue celebrating their heritage.
The event concluded with the distribution of improved seedlings and the traditional Iwa Ji ceremony, accompanied by vibrant masquerade displays that added a festive touch to the occasion.
