The Anambra State Government has announced plans to evict illegal occupants and restore the original master plan of the Trans-Nkisi Layout in Onitsha.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo made this declaration during a visit to commission a new recreational center within the area. He expressed concern over the degradation of public land and emphasized that efforts are already underway to reclaim all government-owned properties. Soludo urged residents to support his administration in modernizing the layout.
He also revealed that the government is in the final stages of acquiring land for the “Onitsha 2.0” project, while “Awka 2.0” is already on the horizon. These developments, he said, are part of a larger vision to build a prosperous future for the people of Anambra.
Due to financial constraints, the governor advocated for a Public-Private-Community Partnership model of development, noting that wealthy and patriotic Anambra citizens are already showing interest. He also announced that his administration is ready to collaborate with the residents of Trans Nkisi Layout on road construction as part of a pilot phase.
Soludo highlighted Onitsha’s status as the commercial hub of the South East and outlined his government’s plans to transform the city. He called on residents to fulfill their civic duties, particularly in the area of tax payment, to help fund the improvements.
Speaking on behalf of the Trans Nkisi Landlords, Nchekwube Okeke, the group’s secretary, praised Governor Soludo for being the first governor to visit the area in 44 years. He also requested the governor’s intervention in dealing with land grabbers who have been a persistent problem for residents.
The newly commissioned recreational center includes a gym, tennis courts, and a fitness area, among other amenities.
