The Anambra State Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment, and Tourism, Mr. Don Onyenji, has called on communities to establish leisure parks to promote recreation and youth engagement. This announcement came as the state joined the global celebration of 2024 World Tourism Day.
Speaking during a press briefing in Awka, Commissioner Onyenji highlighted Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s ongoing efforts to develop the state’s tourism sector. He mentioned the construction of the multi-billion naira Solution Fun City, a leisure hub that can accommodate up to 5,000 people. The Governor is also working to enhance other leisure centers by improving infrastructure, including road networks.
Onyenji acknowledged the challenges of insecurity and funding that affect tourism, but emphasized that Anambra continues to attract tourists thanks to the efforts of the Soludo administration. He encouraged local communities to take initiative in creating leisure parks to foster fun and productive engagement, especially for the youth.
The event, themed “Tourism, Justice, and Peace: When They Come Together Effectively, the World is Better,” was attended by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mr. Jerome Ilokwu, Head of Tourism, Mrs. Chioma Afuba, and other tourism advocates.
