Leaders and traders at Odera Market in Awka South Local Government Area, Anambra State, have praised their new chairman, Mr. Nnaemeka Nworah, for successfully implementing a long-overdue water project, ending 16 years of neglect. The market now boasts a fully functional water system across all its streets, providing clean and accessible water for traders.
During an inspection of the project, Chief Tochukwu Nwokoye, Chairman of the Ezinanor community and leader of Ezi Awka, expressed satisfaction with the progress made in such a short time.
“For many years, nothing was done to improve this market, but within two months of the new chairman’s leadership, water is now available everywhere,” Nwokoye said.
In a statement to journalists, Mr. Nworah, who has been in office for less than two months, outlined his vision for further development of the market.
“Before I assumed office, I noticed that the market lacked basic facilities like water and toilets. I plan to transform this market in the next two years,” Nworah stated, also expressing his support for Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s 2025 re-election campaign.
Mrs. Nkiruka Edemobi, Market Woman Leader, applauded the chairman’s swift action, noting the positive changes the market has seen.
“I have been in this market for over 10 years, and this is the first time we are seeing real improvements. Water is now easily accessible, and we are happy with the progress,” she said.
Mr. Great Ikechukwu, Vice Chairman of Odera Market, highlighted the importance of further transforming the market into a modern facility and called on Governor Soludo to address the ongoing erosion issues that affect traders.
“We are working hard to bring Odera Market to the limelight, but we need the government’s help to overcome these challenges,” Ikechukwu added.
Mr. Obichukwu Ukora, a chemical and paint trader, also praised the improvements, stating that the chairman had fulfilled his promise to provide water throughout the market, and prayed for his continued success.
The recent upgrades mark a turning point for Odera Market, with traders and community leaders eagerly anticipating further development under Mr. Nworah’s leadership.
