Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has urged President Bola Tinubu to dismiss additional underperforming ministers in his cabinet, calling for a more impactful government lineup. In a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday, Ndume commended Tinubu’s recent cabinet shakeup, including the establishment of the Ministry of Regional Development to oversee regional commissions, describing the move as a “masterstroke.”
“We saw President Tinubu’s cabinet reshuffle last week, which was a masterstroke,” Ndume stated. “More needs to be done as some ministers are still ‘missing in action.'”
The senator also encouraged President Tinubu to strengthen his de-dollarisation strategy by positioning Nigeria for membership in BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa), arguing that such a move would reduce dependency on the U.S. dollar and ease the pressure on the naira, benefiting Nigerian businesses, especially those importing from China.
Additionally, Ndume called for a national economic conference, urging Tinubu to assemble the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, the National Economic Adviser, and leading Nigerian economists to create local economic solutions for the country.
In contrast, former All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirant Chief Charles Udeogaranya criticized Tinubu’s cabinet reshuffle, describing it as ineffective and unlikely to impact the economy positively. Udeogaranya suggested that Tinubu should bring new talent with strong leadership skills to his economic team if he seeks real progress for Nigeria.
