Abia Warriors chairman, John Obuh, expressed optimism about more of the club’s players earning Super Eagles call-ups following the invitation of their standout midfielder, Innocent Godwin, to Nigeria’s senior national team for the upcoming African Nations Championship qualifiers against Ghana.
Reflecting on Abia Warriors’ impressive 1-0 away win against Bendel Insurance at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, Obuh praised both the players and the technical crew, led by head coach Imama Amapakabo, for their remarkable efforts and the team’s recent turnaround.
“I must commend the players for their gusty showing in Benin-City and the Imama Amapakabo-led technical crew for transforming the team’s fortunes after a challenging start to the season,” Obuh said. He added that he is “confident more players will be called up to the national team before the season ends.”
The recent victory moved Abia Warriors to fifth place in the NPFL standings. Their next fixture sees them hosting Heartland in an Oriental derby in Umuahia this weekend.
