The Anambra State Government has established a 13-member committee to address the ongoing crisis in Ogwuaniocha, a community in Ogbaru Local Government Area, which has experienced significant unrest, loss of life, and property destruction. Chaired by Justice C.K. Anigbogu (Rtd), the committee’s mission is to thoroughly investigate the origins of the conflict, its broader impact, and recommend solutions to restore peace in the community and across Anambra State.
Justice Anigbogu explained that the committee’s objective is to present an unbiased assessment of the situation, emphasizing the positive cooperation shown by the community members during the investigation. “The community has submitted their memoranda, posed essential questions, and offered honest responses. Their openness and willingness to find solutions are commendable,” he noted.
He urged residents to maintain peace and avoid any provocative language or actions that could escalate tensions. The community’s constructive participation, he said, would help the committee develop practical recommendations for the government. Justice Anigbogu also encouraged individuals still scheduled to appear before the panel to share their perspectives, assuring that their voices will be integral to the committee’s final report.
The committee’s work is expected to be thorough, encompassing a holistic view of the crisis to provide actionable solutions for lasting peace. Justice Anigbogu also appealed to those affected by the violence, asking for patience as the government works on a sustainable approach to address their grievances.
Mosignor Theophilus Odukwe and Igwe Victor Awogu, the traditional ruler of Osomala, both spoke at the panel, urging Ogwuaniocha residents to embrace unity and peace for community progress and development.
