In a gesture of support for education in rural Anambra, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and Dr. Nonye Soludo, wife of Anambra State Governor Professor Charles Soludo, have donated essential writing materials to primary schools in Awka North Local Government Area. The initiative was unveiled during a distribution exercise coordinated by the Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh.
The first phase of the program saw four primary schools benefiting from the donation: Obuno Primary School, Ebenebe; Unity Primary School, Awba Ofemili; Agueke Primary School, Ugbenu; and Community Primary School, Ugbenu.
At the event, Prof. Chuma-Udeh highlighted that the materials were provided through the First Lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative and Dr. Nonye Soludo’s Healthy Living initiative, both aimed at enhancing educational opportunities in Nigeria’s hinterlands. She emphasized that the support would help bridge gaps in essential resources for students and encouraged the pupils to study diligently toward a brighter future.
Expressing gratitude, Mrs. Agatha Ajuorah, Headteacher of Obuno Primary School, praised both Senator Tinubu and Dr. Soludo for their contributions. She also thanked Governor Charles Soludo for his commitment to quality education across the state.
The ceremony included a lively interactive session, where students were rewarded for correctly naming the First Ladies of Nigeria and Anambra State, and chants of “Thank You, Mama Anambra” and “Thank You, Mama Nigeria” filled the air as students and teachers expressed their appreciation.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Education, including the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Ifeoma Agbaizu, and board members from the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) and Post Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC), were also in attendance.
