The Anambra State government has initiated repair work on the damaged drainage system, known as the “Sakamori,” at Relief Market in Ogbaru. This issue has impacted over 50 shops since 2021, displacing traders and affecting local commerce.
Market Chairman Chief Ndubuisi Ochiogu, who led the market executive team to the site, explained that the damage forced many traders to leave for their villages, while some continue to navigate the market without designated shops. He assured that once repairs are complete, affected traders will be able to return to their shops.
Chief Ochiogu expressed gratitude to the state government for responding to their request and pledged ongoing support for Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration.
Engineer Victor Chukwuyelu, one of the engineers overseeing the project, stated that repairs are expected to conclude within three months. He thanked the market executives and traders for their cooperation and support.
The market executive members present at the site included Chief Anthony Emudus and Messrs Eugene Nwanekezie, Emmanuel Nwadibia, and Chinyelugo Nwamaduka, among others.
