The Super Eagles of Nigeria have clinched the top position in Group D for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying series, following a 1-1 draw against Benin Republic on Thursday evening. Nigeria’s qualification for next year’s tournament was confirmed after Libya’s 1-0 victory over Rwanda.
In Abidjan, the three-time African champions initially trailed when Mohamed Tijani’s header put Benin in the lead during the first half. However, Victor Osimhen’s late goal, scored just nine minutes before full time, earned Nigeria a crucial point.
With this result, Nigeria now stands at 11 points in the group, four points ahead of Benin and six points clear of Rwanda, who they will face in their final fixture next week.
