The Annie Okonkwo Foundation has awarded scholarships to 150 secondary school students in Anambra State under its “Dreams to Degree” initiative.
The scholarship program covers the West African Examination Council (WAEC) fees and learning materials for Senior Secondary Three students who excelled in the foundation’s scholarship examination.
During the presentation of scholarship certificates at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Centre in Awka, Honourable Uchenna Okonkwo, the benefactor and representative of Idemili North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, stated that the initiative continues the legacy of his late father, Senator Annie Okonkwo. He also revealed plans to extend support to beneficiaries who gain admission into tertiary institutions by covering their tuition fees.
The event drew commendations from government officials, including the State Chief of Protocol and Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, who praised the foundation for aligning with the governor’s Public-Private Community Partnership model to advance education in the state.
Some beneficiaries, including Amauche Nwaofufe and Chiemelie Anuchiem, expressed gratitude and pledged to excel in their WAEC exams.
Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, represented by Dr. Bayo Omogunwa, urged the students to maximize the opportunity by focusing on their studies to achieve their dreams.
Additionally, Professor Chidozie Nwafor, a resource person, delivered a lecture on “Choosing the Right Course: Preparing for Academic Experience in Tertiary Institutions.” He emphasized the importance of aligning career choices with natural interests to attain academic success.
