There was jubilation among staff of the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) today as they began receiving the newly implemented N70,000 minimum wage. The staff expressed their gratitude and pledged support for Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration and re-election bid.
The wage increment, promised by Governor Soludo, took effect in October for all state government workers. The governor’s decision to implement the increase was met with widespread appreciation.
Comrade Ngozi Obileri, Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, commended the governor, describing him as a leader with empathy for workers. She assured that labor unions within ABS are committed to supporting Governor Soludo in the next gubernatorial elections.
Other staff members, including Mr. Kenechukwu Chukwudi and Mrs. Eucharia Nwachukwu, expressed relief and gratitude, citing the rising cost of living and the demands of the festive season. “This salary increment is a lifesaver during these challenging times,” Mrs. Nwachukwu noted, visibly emotional.
The staff also extended their appreciation to the Governor and the ABS Managing Director, Mr. Chris Molokwu, for not only implementing the minimum wage but also approving a 10% general salary increment.
