The Anambra State Government has clarified that the proposed installation of solar-powered streetlights across Awka metropolis was not among the memos approved at the 35th Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) meeting.
During the meeting held at the Council Chambers in Awka, the council extensively deliberated on the proposal but resolved that the unit cost of the project was too high and required a downward review. As a result, the memo was stepped down and deferred for re-presentation at the next ANSEC meeting, pending the availability of all necessary specifications.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, the government expressed regret over an earlier announcement that erroneously reported the streetlight project as awarded. He emphasized that the report was inaccurate and urged the public to disregard it.
Dr. Mefor assured residents that the public would be duly informed once a final decision is made regarding the project. The clarification underscores the government’s commitment to transparency and fiscal responsibility in its decision-making processes.
