Popular Nollywood actor Nonso Diobi has shared the story of how his striking resemblance to veteran actress Hilda Dokubo secured him his first major acting role in the film industry.
Speaking on a recent episode of the *Nollywood Hardcore* podcast, Diobi recounted his breakthrough moment, which came after years of relentless auditions.
He explained that during one audition, Hilda Dokubo noticed him and immediately pointed out their resemblance to the director. “She said, ‘This young boy looks like me. He can play my brother,’” Diobi revealed.
Thanks to Dokubo’s suggestion, Diobi was cast in the role without even auditioning, marking the end of a challenging three-year period during which he attended over 1,000 auditions without success.
The actor credited the opportunity as a turning point in his career and expressed gratitude for Dokubo’s role in jumpstarting his journey in Nollywood.
