The Anambra State Government, in collaboration with the State Primary Health Care Development Agency and its partners, has commenced the 2024 second round of the Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Week in Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area.
The initiative aims to reduce maternal and child mortality rates by providing free, equitable access to essential healthcare services for pregnant women, newborns, and children under five. These services include vitamin A supplementation, deworming, immunization, and malnutrition screening.
Dr. Nnamdi Uliagbafusi, Director of Disease Control and Immunization at the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, emphasized the state government’s commitment to improving maternal and child health. He commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his unwavering support in this regard.
Hon. Ugochi Obi, representing the Ihiala Local Government Area, urged mothers to take advantage of the free healthcare services and vaccinate their children to ensure their well-being.
The Anambra State Health Educator, Mrs. Uju Onwuegbuzina, delivered a health talk, while representatives from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) expressed their support for the initiative.
