Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman and Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie headline Nigeria’s quest for glory at the 2024 CAF Awards. The awards ceremony is scheduled for Monday, December 16, at the Palais des Congrès in Marrakesh, Morocco.
Nnadozie is shortlisted for **Women’s Player of the Year**, competing against Morocco’s Sanaa Mssoudy and Zambia’s Babra Banda. The Paris FC goalkeeper is also a top contender for a second consecutive **Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year** award.
In the men’s category, Ademola Lookman is in the running for **Men’s Player of the Year**, alongside Ivory Coast’s Simon Adingra, PSG’s Achraf Hakimi, Guinea striker Serhou Guirassy, and South Africa goalkeeper Ronwen Williams. Lookman aims to follow in the footsteps of compatriot Victor Osimhen, who won the award in 2023.
### **National Team Nominations**
The **Super Eagles** and **Super Falcons** are also finalists for the **National Team of the Year** award.
– The Super Eagles earned their spot after a strong showing at AFCON 2023, where they defeated Cameroon, Angola, and South Africa before narrowly losing to Ivory Coast in the final. They also topped their group in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers.
– The Super Falcons, though less active in 2024, represented Africa at the Olympics, faced Brazil, Spain, and Japan in the group stages, and secured victories in friendlies against Algeria before narrowly losing to France in their final game of the year.
### **Other Nigerian Nominations**
– **Chiamaka Okwuchukwu**, a Falconets and Rivers Angels forward, is among the final three for **Women’s Young Player of the Year**. Her standout performance at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, where she scored two goals and provided an assist, earned her the nomination.
– **Edo Queens**, the Nigeria Women Football League champions, are finalists for **Women’s Club of the Year**, competing against CAF Women’s Champions League winners TP Mazembe and Asfar.
As Nigeria looks to build on its rich football legacy, the upcoming CAF Awards present a golden opportunity to celebrate the nation’s excellence on the continental stage.
