About 250 elderly citizens in Anambra State have received ₦200,000 each as part of the second edition of the Elder Support Scheme under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHIESS).
The event, held in Awka, was organized by the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), a humanitarian organization led by Senator Oluremi Tinubu, wife of Nigeria’s President. The scheme targets citizens aged 65 and above, selected based on health, age, and economic criteria.
In addition to the cash support, the beneficiaries received gallons of vegetable oil, rolls of wrappers, and free medical checkups. The programme, which is being implemented across Nigeria’s 36 states, also includes members of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) as beneficiaries.
Speaking on behalf of the First Lady, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, wife of Anambra State Governor, emphasized the initiative’s commitment to enhancing the well-being of elderly citizens and fostering a compassionate society. She also highlighted the importance of focusing on vulnerable groups, especially during the festive season.
Beneficiaries like Mrs. Medina Ifeanyi from Ogbaru and Mr. Isaac Uche from Ihiala expressed gratitude, describing the gesture as unprecedented in Anambra State.
Prominent dignitaries in attendance included Mrs. Oluchi Ibezim, wife of Anambra State’s Deputy Governor; Mrs. Amara Ezeokenwa, wife of the APGA National Chairman; and Mrs. Amaka Obi, Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili South.
The Elder Support Scheme is part of the broader efforts by the Renewed Hope Initiative to uplift disadvantaged communities nationwide.
