Filmmaker Laju Iren premiered her new movie *Danfo and the Rose* on December 19, 2024, at Ebony Life Cinemas in Victoria Island, Lagos, with a glamorous event attended by notable personalities, including her husband, Emmanuel Iren, Lead Pastor of Celebration Church International, along with Ifeanyi Kalu, SLK, Sunshine Rosman, Michael Dappa, and Olushola Okodugha.
Directed by Akinkunle Akinrogunde (AMA Psalmist), the film follows a young woman striving to achieve her dreams amid the complexities of life in Lagos. It delves into themes of love in unexpected places, the pursuit of dreams against overwhelming odds, and the significance of showing care and compassion to others even when facing personal struggles.
The cast includes Adunni Ade, Debo Adedayo (Mr. Macaroni), Sunshine Rosman, Michael Dapaah, and Sam Dede.
Iren explained the inspiration behind the film, stating, “I try to tell stories about the things I believe are important. Family, learning to be inspired even when things are difficult… stories of hope with a sense of wisdom.” She highlighted the importance of balancing the pursuit of dreams with valuing advice from elders and not disregarding what one already has.
Reflecting on the movie’s impact, she expressed hope that it would encourage the younger generation to think critically while chasing their dreams and foster a connection between generations. Iren aims to inspire people to look beyond their backgrounds and follow their aspirations regardless of where they come from.
