The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on the Anambra State Government to enhance efforts in ensuring the security of lives and property as the festive season approaches.
In a communiqué issued after its recent State Executive Council (SEC) meeting held at its state secretariat in Onitsha, CAN emphasized the need for increased surveillance and robust collaboration among security agencies. The meeting’s resolutions were signed by the Chairman, Venerable Joseph Nweke, and Secretary, Reverend Moses Echefu.
CAN appealed to all citizens to support security efforts, particularly in the ongoing search for Most Reverend Godwin Okpala, who was recently reported missing. The group also prayed for the safe return of all those held captive by kidnappers.
The communiqué expressed concern over incidents of harassment and mistreatment of clergy members on state roads over minor traffic violations. CAN urged traffic coordinators to educate their personnel on professionalism and respect in handling such situations.
The association also condemned the rising cases of gender-based violence in the state, reaffirming its commitment to addressing the issue. “Violence has never been the way of life of Ndi Igbo,” the communiqué noted.
Additionally, CAN criticized the activities of wealthy individuals involved in land grabbing and exploitation of the underprivileged, warning them to desist or face divine judgment.
The association called for collective action to ensure justice, security, and societal harmony across the state.
