In the hours leading up to Christmas, Onitsha markets were abuzz with activity as residents hurried to purchase items for the festivities. Major markets like Ochanja Central Market, Relief Market, and the Electronic Dealers Market witnessed a significant influx of buyers.
ABS News observed a mix of shoppers boarding tricycles to transport their purchases, while others trekked, citing high transportation costs as a challenge.
Speaking with ABS News, Mrs. Nkechi Eze, a shopper, noted that last-minute purchases often yield better deals on high-quality goods as traders clear out their stock. Another buyer, Mr. Modestus, described the timing of his shopping as purely coincidental.
Several traders, including Sir Dona Obi, Godwin Igwe, Odira Agunobi, Chinyere Chikere, and Mercy Martins, confirmed the high turnout of customers, expressing satisfaction despite the current economic challenges.
The markets are expected to quiet down soon as traders prepare to close for the year.
