The Ifite Ogbeadiji Ebenesi Nnobi community in Idemili South Local Government Area came alive with its first-ever cultural carnival, drawing illustrious sons and daughters to celebrate their rich heritage.
Held at St. Theresa’s Field, Nnobi, the event highlighted the vibrant traditions of Ndi Nnobi and was facilitated by Chief Hamilton Ezeonu and his wife, Dr. Thelma Ezeonu.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo, represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, emphasized the state government’s commitment to promoting culture and tourism. He cited ongoing projects such as the Solution Fun City, Agulu Lake Resort, and the remodeling of Ogbunike Cave as steps towards making Anambra a cultural and tourism hub.
The traditional ruler of Nnobi, Igwe Nick Obi, explained that the carnival was organized to foster unity and love within the community and encouraged other villages to adopt similar initiatives to preserve Igbo culture.
Chief and Dr. Ezeonu noted that the carnival aimed to showcase Nnobi’s cultural beauty, provide a platform for talent exhibition, and harness the potential of community members.
The event was graced by dignitaries, including the Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment, and Tourism, Comrade Don Onyenji; Chairman of Idemili South Council, Hon. Amaka Obi; Chairman of Ifite Ogbeadiji Nnobi, Comrade Stanley Izuegbunem; and Co-Chairman of the event, Chief Tochukwu Okafor.
Highlights of the carnival included cultural dances, masquerade performances, talent exhibitions, and the presentation of laptops, cheques, and empowerment packages.
