Ihiala, Anambra State — Tragedy struck on Monday as gunmen launched a deadly attack on security operatives and unarmed civilians in Ihiala, killing seven individuals, including two passers-by. The incident, which occurred at about 11:20 a.m. on December 30, 2024, also left one victim severely injured. The Joint Security Team successfully rescued the injured individual, who is now receiving treatment at a hospital.
The Commissioner of Police, *CP Nnaghe Obono Itam*, visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment, engaging eyewitnesses to gather critical information. Reports revealed that the assailants began shooting sporadically at a venue where preparations were ongoing for a burial ceremony scheduled for January 2, 2025. While fleeing, the attackers targeted a security observation post near the Local Government headquarters along the Express Road, killing two security personnel.
In response to the incident, CP Itam directed an immediate manhunt for the perpetrators and assured the public that justice would be served. He extended his condolences to the families of the victims and the residents of Ihiala, pledging unwavering commitment to restoring peace and order in the community.
