To strengthen the security of Orofia village in Abagana and the broader community, Orofia United in Diaspora (OUD) has donated essential security equipment and vehicles to the local vigilante group.
The items, which include a minibus, three motorcycles, torches, walkie-talkies, and machetes, were handed over during an event at Chime Hall, Abagana, in Njikoka Council Area. The occasion also marked the inauguration of the Reformed Orofia Security Network.
Orofia United in Diaspora is a group of distinguished indigenes of Orofia village residing abroad who are committed to contributing to the community’s development.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Jude Akpua, representing Njikoka II Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, commended the group for answering Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s call for individuals to embrace the Public-Private Community Partnership (PPCP) model. He praised their efforts in supporting the government’s mission to enhance security and peace across the state.
Dr. Nduka Akaogu, President of Orofia United in Diaspora, highlighted the group’s dedication to the development of Orofia village and Abagana at large. “Our focus is on projects that uplift the community, including education, healthcare, and security,” he stated.
Other speakers, including the Chairman of Orofia Village Association, Dr. Chike Ezejiegu, and the Director of Abagana Vigilante Services, Mr. Jerry Onochie-Modebelu, expressed optimism that the donated gadgets would significantly enhance the effectiveness of the vigilante team.
Earlier in the day, the Orofia Youths Association, led by Chairman Mr. Innocent Ezebilo, organized a “Walk for Life” to promote healthy living and raise awareness about wellness within the community.
The event underscored the power of collective action in fostering development and ensuring the safety and well-being of residents.
