Governor Chukwama Soludo of Anambra State has urged traditional rulers, mothers, fathers, the clergy and others to join in promoting the right Igbo cultures which entails inculcating right family morals, supporting people with known means of livihood in the society and advising against get-rich-quick syndrome.
The Governor made the call yesterday, January 4, 2024 during the third ofala festival of the Traditional Ruler of Isuofia Community, Aguata Local Government Area, Igwe Col. CAO Muoghalu.
Said he, “We shall continue preserving our cultures. We must do them to bequeath the right culture to our people. This will help remind our people of what ndigbo are known for. Aka aja aja na ebute onu mmanu mmanu. A man must have a source of his wealth. There’s a new trend now of ego mbute. Even some priests are preaching payment of tithe for God to double their money. Those things must stop. Ezenwanyi enu ma ezenwanyi ani must stop. They should all look for somewhere but not Anambra”.
He informed that his government was putting together a new law that when passed and signed would take care of the security problems including tackling crime enablers like manufacturers of mkpulu mmilI and demolition of houses used for such illicit business.
Governor Soludo thanked the Igwe and ndi Isuofia for organizing a successful ofala festival and urged them to fix a date for next year’s celebration on time.
” Mine is to thank you. Igwe Isuofia, keep being you. Lets work towards having exact date for ofala Isuofia. We have here to celebrate our culture and we shall continue preserving it”, Soludo declared.
In his address, Igwe Col. CAO Muoghalu explained that the word “Ofala” was derived from two Igbo words: ofor and ala. According to him ‘Ofor’ means authority given by the people while ala means land. Joining the two would be Oforala -Ofala.
He pointed out that ofala was celebrated after harvest of crops and others planted in the farm. ” Ofala happens after harvest (bounty harvest). It’s a celebration in Igboland. We thank the Governor for everything he’s doing for our people.”
The traditional ruler called on the people who were supporting the Governor to register and get their voters card and be ready for this year’s gubernatorial election to re-elect Governor Soludo for a second term in office.
Igwe Muoghalu later confered chieftaincy titles on deserving indigenes of the community including the former Commissioner for Housing and Public Utilities in the State and President of Dalchi Foundation, Hon. Engr. Emeka Ezenwanne as Okwute-Udo Isuofia and others.
In his vote of thanks after receiving the title as Okwute-Udo Isuofia, Chief Emeka Ezenwanne thanked Igwe Muoghalu, Onowu, Ndichie and entire people of Isuofia for finding him worthy of the chieftaincy title. He promised to continue training and empowering Isuofia people and supporting the community in anyway he can.
