KEON FC has claimed victory in the 2024/2025 Urum Anike Unity Cup Football Tournament, organized by the Urum Development Union in Awka North Local Government Area.
The team defeated Home Sample FC in a nail-biting final that ended in a penalty shootout, after a hard-fought match that saw both sides give their all for the coveted trophy. This marks the second time KEON FC has bested Home Sample FC during the tournament, following their 2:1 win in the opening match. Despite the initial loss, Home Sample FC rallied through subsequent matches to reach the finals and secure second place.
The tournament concluded with KEON FC earning a ₦1,000,000 cash prize, while Home Sample FC received ₦600,000 as runners-up. Future Hope FC, which finished third, was awarded ₦300,000.
Describing the tournament as the best edition yet, Sir Felix Oranye, President General of the Urum Anike Development Union, praised all participating teams for their sportsmanship. He also appealed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo to address the town’s dilapidated roads connecting Urum to Okpuno, Isuaniocha, Amanuke, and Ugbene communities.
Other speakers, including the immediate past President General of Urum, Mr. Aloysius Tabansi; Chairman of the Urum Football Committee, Engineer Emmanuel Ojeani; and Urum Ward Councillor, Hon. Uchenna Nnonyelum, thanked God and Governor Soludo for restoring peace to the community. They noted that the football tournament has significantly united its members.
KEON FC Chairman, Mr. Kodilichukwu Okeke, and Home Sample FC CEO, Mr. Christian Nwakeze, expressed gratitude for their teams’ achievements and pledged to invest in more training for better performances in future tournaments.
