The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has categorically debunked online rumors alleging that the Enugu State Government’s official account was hacked, resulting in the theft of N1.09 billion. The Force described the claims as completely baseless and unfounded.
In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on January 9, 2025, the NPF clarified that the case under investigation was procurement fraud, not a cyber breach. The investigation, conducted by the National Cyber Crime Centre (NCCC), led to the arrest of a suspect connected to the fraud, and the stolen funds have already been recovered.
The Enugu State Government, alongside other ministries, departments, and corporate entities, is reportedly working with the NCCC to strengthen financial security systems and prevent future incidents.
The Police urged citizens to refrain from spreading misinformation and to verify the credibility of news before sharing.
