In a series of coordinated operations aimed at enhancing internal security, the Nigeria Police Force has dismantled a weapons manufacturing factory, apprehended a cultist, and arrested suspects linked to murders across three states.
On January 11, 2025, police operatives raided an illegal weapons factory in Tse Akamabe, Kwande LGA, Benue State. Two suspects, Friday Aduduakambe and Iorwashima Iornyume, also known as “AK,” were arrested. Recovered items included nine locally fabricated pistols, an unfinished AK-47 rifle, two gas cylinders, four vise machines, a filing machine, and numerous other tools used in manufacturing weapons.
In Delta State, police acting on intelligence raided the residence of Prosper Akeni, a suspected hitman for the Eiye cult group, at DSC. Seized from the apartment were various firearms, including an English revolver, a Beretta pistol, multiple locally fabricated guns, and 25 rounds of ammunition. Akeni confessed to being the custodian of the weapons for his cult group.
In Kebbi State, two suspects were arrested in separate incidents for fatal stabbings. On December 31, 2024, Yunusa Haruna, 25, from Shanga LGA, allegedly stabbed his elder brother, Isiyaku Haruna, in the chest. On January 8, 2025, Abubakar Ummar was apprehended in Zuru Village for the fatal stabbing of Mohammed Bala during an argument.
Commending the officers involved, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun urged continued vigilance and cooperation from the public. He emphasized the need for community-based policing to sustain the fight against crime nationwide.
