The Anambra State Commissioner for Special Duties, Rt. Hon. Barr. Beverly Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche, has reiterated the state government’s dedication to improving the lives and welfare of senior citizens. The commissioner made this pledge during a courtesy visit by members of the National Stakeholders Consultative Forum on Aging (NNSCFOA), Anambra State chapter, at her office in the Government House, Awka.
The delegation, led by the Chairperson and Facilitator, Iyom Josephine Anenih, included Co-Chairman Dr. Ahoma Mbanuzuru, Vice Chairmen Rt. Hon. Prince Chukwudi Orizu, and Dr. Uche Onyejimbe. The visit aimed to strengthen collaboration between the forum and the state government in addressing issues affecting the elderly population.
Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche emphasized that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration is committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for older persons. She outlined ongoing initiatives designed to promote the dignity, rights, and well-being of senior citizens through the development of age-friendly programs and policies.
“The well-being of our senior citizens is a top priority for the ministry, and partnerships like this are crucial to achieving our mandate,” the commissioner stated. “We are working tirelessly to build a society where older persons are valued, respected, and fully supported in all aspects of their lives.”
Iyom Josephine Anenih, speaking on behalf of the NNSCFOA, expressed the forum’s eagerness to collaborate with the Anambra State Government to tackle challenges related to aging. She stressed the urgency of addressing these issues, particularly as the elderly population continues to grow. Anenih commended the state government for its proactive approach and called for sustained efforts to ensure that senior citizens receive the care and support they deserve.
The meeting underscored the importance of collective action in addressing the needs of older persons, with both parties pledging to work together to create a more inclusive and age-friendly society in Anambra State.
