As part of efforts to enhance grassroots security in Anambra State, Isiagu community in Awka South Local Government Area has held its maiden security summit and launched a Security Trust Fund to improve local security infrastructure.
At the summit, the community also inaugurated a 15-member Town Management and Finance Committee, empowered by the *Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025* to oversee the activities of the Agunechemba security unit in the area.
Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, *Honourable Chukwuma Okoye*, and Mayor of Awka South LGA, *Prince Chinedu Okafor*, commended Isiagu residents for embracing the state government’s security initiative. They urged the community to take collective responsibility in safeguarding lives and property.
Interim President General of Isiagu Community Union, *Elder Nwabueze Nwokoye*, warned those engaging in criminal activities to desist, vowing that his leadership would take a firm stance against insecurity.
Chairman of the occasion, *Chief Chukwuebuka Nweke*, praised the impact of the Agunechemba security outfit in restoring peace in the state and encouraged residents to support its operations in Isiagu.
The District Police Officer of Central Police Station, Awka, *Mr. Godwin Mba*, described the initiative as a positive step and called for greater collaboration between local security groups and the police.
Community stakeholders, including Youth Leader *Comrade Collins Nweke*, Women’s Representative *Mrs. Juliet Okonkwo*, and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, *Mr. Chijioke Nwafor*, hailed the summit as a turning point for security in Isiagu.
