The Anambra State Government, in collaboration with Supporters of Good Governance, organized a road walk across the 21 local government areas to mark the 2025 International Women’s Day.
The walk, which started from Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square junction and ended at Eke Awka, was attended by officials from the State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare and members of the advocacy group.
Addressing participants, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, urged parents and the public to reject harmful ritual practices, including “Oke Ite,” the fraudulent practice of “Eze Nwanyi,” and the activities of certain traditional spiritualists. She emphasized that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration has zero tolerance for such acts.
The walk concluded with a collective prayer by the women against kidnapping, killings, and ritual activities in the state. Participants also encouraged citizens to speak up against wrongdoing.
The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is “Accelerate Action.”
