The Umudioka Awka community in Awka South Local Government Area was thrown into mourning following the gruesome murder of an 84-year-old man, Chief Michael Nwobu, whose lifeless body was discovered with multiple stab wounds on Sunday, March 2, 2025.
Sources revealed that Chief Nwobu was in good health that morning and had seen his wife off to church around 7 a.m. However, an hour later, he was found dead, brutally attacked by unknown assailants.
Community leaders, including the Secretary of Ndichie Umudioka Awka, Mr. Nwobu Nweke, and the Chairman of Ulonese Umudioka Awka, Mr. Fidelis Nwokike, strongly condemned the killing. They confirmed that reports have been made to the authorities, expressing hope that those responsible will be brought to justice.
The village’s Youth Chairman, Mr. Christopher Uzoh, and a relative of the deceased, Mr. Emeka Nnaemeka, also demanded justice for the slain elder.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that he had yet to receive an official report on the incident and could not comment on the matter at the time of filing this report.
