President Bola Tinubu has appointed the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the newly established Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, Kaduna State.
Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced the appointment in a statement on Monday, noting that it follows the recent federal takeover of Nok University, Kachia, which has now been renamed.
The President also approved the appointment of Prof. Qurix Barnabas as Vice Chancellor, Sanusi Adamu as Registrar, Ibrahim Dalhat as Bursar, and Prof. Daniel Abubakar as University Librarian. Additionally, Thomas Etuh (North Central), Chief Fabian Nwaora (South-East), Prof. Femi Taiwo (South-West), and Zarah Bukar (North-East) were named members of the Governing Council.
The Presidency emphasized that the appointees were selected based on their experience and dedication to advancing education in Nigeria. Tinubu urged them to provide visionary leadership to establish the university as a center for academic excellence and research, aligning with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The institution is expected to admit its first students in September 2025.
