Coca-Cola foundation in collaboration with TechnoServe Nigeria have donated Trucks to private-owned waste recycling companies (waste aggregators)in Anambra State.
The handover was performed by the Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Dr. Felix Odimegwu on behalf of the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo in the presence of Coca-Cola Foundation and Technoserve officials at Jerome Udorji Secretariat in Awka.
The donation was part of the private sector support initiative in plastic recycling chain by Nigerian plastic solution Activity (NPSA)now changed to Plastic Recycling programme for southern Nigeria an initiative launched by Coca-Cola Foundation and Technoserve to tackle critical challenge of plastic waste management in Nigeria through innovative recycling solutions.
Speaking during the handover, Dr Odimegwu Stated that the initiative was in line with the agenda of the Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo in making sure that circular economy takes center stage in the state. He emphasized that the gesture was in view of the Plastic recycling programme for southern Nigeria to support plastic recycling industries in the state. He urged all private recycling companies in the state to come forward and affiliate with the state government as that would align them with opportunities such as this.
Dr Odimegwu stated that the donations which started last year with large industrial Generators, Waste washing lines and recycling scale give-aways resuscitated and re-jigged many private-own recycling companies and that the project is here to stay as Coca-Cola foundation continues to throw in their support even as USAID has pulled out/withdrawned ( As a result of Donald Trump new policies)
He maintained that the goal was to end plastic pollution in the state as the move would maintain a clean, green, healthy, liveable and sustainable Anambra where we can all live, work and enjoy.
Beneficiaries of the trucks includes: Obicharis Multiventures, OU Cintia Resources, J Mandis Ltd, WCO Global Concept, Igwe Petrochemical, Wastebox Services.
