The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring corps members receive quality healthcare throughout their service year.
Speaking during a visit to the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr. Kelechi Ohiri, in Abuja, General Nafiu emphasized the need for a robust health package for corps members, citing the risks and health hazards they face during their service.
He described health insurance as a critical component of NYSC activities and stressed the importance of strengthening collaboration with NHIA to enhance corps members’ welfare.
“Corps welfare and health are paramount to us in NYSC. We want to improve our existing relationship for the benefit of our corps members. I have come to familiarize myself with the leadership of NHIA and fine-tune the MoU between NYSC and NHIA,” Nafiu stated.
In response, Dr. Ohiri congratulated General Nafiu on his appointment and commended his dedication to corps members’ welfare. He reaffirmed NHIA’s readiness to support partnerships that enhance service delivery and highlighted ongoing reforms aimed at improving healthcare provider accreditation and compliance across the country.
The two agencies pledged to deepen collaboration to ensure corps members receive seamless and high-quality medical care.
