The Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Information has pledged to support the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) in enhancing its operations and performance.
Led by its chairman, Honourable Fred Ezenwa, representing Onitsha South Constituency 1, the committee made this commitment during an oversight visit to the station. Ezenwa explained that their role includes monitoring ABS’s activities, identifying challenges, and recommending solutions. He also congratulated the Managing Director of ABS, Mr. Chris Molokwu, on his appointment.
Committee members, including Honourable Jude Umennajiego (Onitsha South 2), Honourable Golden Iloh (Ihiala Constituency), and Honourable Chidi Ibemeka (Njikoka 1), inquired about the possibility of ABS being accessible via cable television and other areas where the Assembly could assist the station.
In response, Mr. Molokwu appreciated the lawmakers for their visit and highlighted recent improvements in content creation and staff training since he assumed office. He outlined key challenges, including the need for functional equipment, stable power supply through electricity and solar energy, as well as pension and gratuity payments for retired staff.
The ABS management team, including the Director of Legal Services, Mrs. Juliet Amasiatu, and other department heads, were present to receive the lawmakers and discuss ways to strengthen the station’s operations.
