Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has assured residents that the ongoing political crisis will ultimately strengthen them rather than weaken them.
Fubara made this statement while receiving Muslim leaders from 20 Islamic-based groups, including the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, at his private residence in Port Harcourt during an Eid-el-Fitri visit.
Addressing the delegation, he urged them and his supporters to trust in God’s process, emphasizing the values of love, sharing, and sacrifice during the season. He acknowledged the difficulties posed by the political situation but expressed confidence that it would lead to a greater purpose.
“No matter what we see, we must remain steadfast. In all things, we give glory to Almighty God. I believe that, in the end, we will emerge stronger,” Fubara said.
He reaffirmed his commitment to justice and equality, stating that his administration envisions a society where no one is oppressed. He also assured the Muslim leaders that their pending requests would be addressed after the crisis subsides.
The Governor cautioned against violence and warned supporters to resist individuals trying to destabilize the state. He assured that his government would continue to respect constituted authority to maintain peace and stability in Rivers.
Speaking on behalf of the Muslim community, Alhaji Nasir Awhelebe Uhor expressed solidarity with Fubara, assuring him of their prayers and support. He commended the Governor’s inclusive approach to governance, contrasting it with the previous administration’s stance.
Uhor also called on President Bola Tinubu to review the emergency rule in Rivers State and restore Fubara’s full authority, emphasizing that he has been performing effectively despite the crisis.
During the visit, prayers were offered for the Governor, his family, Rivers State, and Nigeria.
