Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady and grand patron of the 2025 African Women’s Volleyball Club Championship, led dignitaries to witness the thrilling grand finale of the tournament in Abuja on Monday. After 14 days of intense competition, Zamalek Club of Egypt emerged victorious, clinching their third consecutive championship title.
The tense final match saw Zamalek face off against Al-Ahly, showcasing a remarkable display of volleyball skills with heated volleys, strategic blocks, and well-executed rallies. Zamalek took the first set 29-27, but Al-Ahly fought back to win the second set 22-25. Zamalek regained control in the third set, winning 25-20, and despite a strong challenge from their opponents, they secured the fourth set to confirm their title.
Senator Tinubu congratulated the champions and commended all participating teams for their dedication and sportsmanship. “Your victory today was earned through countless hours of practice, teamwork, and perseverance,” she said. “Zamalek’s journey to this podium began long before this tournament, in community courts and early morning training sessions. Today, you have reaped the rewards of that investment.”
She also praised the Nigeria Customs Service for organizing a world-class competition and emphasized the potential of Nigeria and Africa in the international volleyball scene.
KPC of Kenya secured third place by defeating Carthage of Tunisia in straight sets during the third-place play-off.
A total of 16 clubs from across Africa participated in the tournament, which was hosted in Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, marking a significant moment for African volleyball.
